April Showers Bring May Flowers

The weather this April has been less than satisfactory in my opinion. I am done with the "showers", rain, snow, etc. Bring on the sun and May flowers.

I have been getting a lot of sewing done because of the cold weather. I find myself excited to get on the sewing machine as soon as I get the kiddos down for bed. I have been really into pillows lately. Having the same pillows on my couch for the last 5 years I decided to switch it up a little. I made a bird pillow a while ago, but wanted a variation so I decided to make a flower pillow. And because May is just around the corner I thought for sure a flower pillow was needed. Well once I started it was so much fun I made a few. Now i just have to find a place/home for them all. Here is my favorite one.

Individual Worth

I have been thinking about this post for over a week now. I finally have a free moment to write it down. By free moment I mean I am listening to the sweet night time lullaby of my 2 year old crying at his door because he doesn't want to go to bed.

A few Sundays ago the relief society lesson was on Individual worth. The sweet sister who was teaching started off by asking what are things the world makes us think are things we need to have worth as women. Everyone had a n easy time shouting out answers such as fake nails, bigger body parts, designer clothing, big house, money, perfect children, etc etc etc. You get the idea right.

Then she asked what makes us actually feel our self worth. Temple attendance, scripture study, prayer, service, family and so on.

It really made me think about where I have been putting myself lately. I'll be the first to admit I always have a hard time feeling self worth after I have a baby (by after I mean 12 months) I really do struggle not being able to fit in clothes and having that pesky love handles that just don't go away. I have struggled feeling good about myself. Not only do I fret about my physical appearance but I am often hard on myself. I feel I so often fall short of the mark. I have yet to get it through the day without having moments I regret in my parenting. I lose my temper, I don't listen and out down something to play with my kids, I don't have the patience to answer "What That? I see it?" for the millionth time(no exaggeration given). I feel I am not always a great friend, I take offence sometime when noone is tryiing to offend me. I feel sometimes I am rash in what I say and might offend others. My kids are far from perfect and I feel sometimes it's my fault.

With that said I also feel like I try . I try to listen to the spirit and act upon promptings. I try to be a good mom and teach my children good principles. I am working on being patient. I am trying to stop thinking so much about myself and more about others in my family. I am trying to be less judgmental. (It's true I am judgmental I have come a long way but my poor family has often got the blunt end of my short comings.

Anyway I was pondering all this during the lesson when the sister, asked if anyone had an experience when the Lord has helped them feel their worth. A sister raised her hand and shared an experience that really resonated in my soul. I asked her if it would be alright if I blogged about it because it was so personal and she said it would be. Let me give you some back ground information. I don't know all the details but I will share what I know.

About a year ago this sister was training for a triathlon. She was riding her bike and had a terrible accident. It ended up with her being in the hospital with bones spurs in her spine and her ability to walk affected. She was confined to a bed, because of this she got a blood clot and had 2 strokes. The second one caused a speech impediment. She couldn't even speak for a while now she communicates wonderfully only she repeats herself. For example she might say "Hi nice to see you, hi nice to see you". Back to the story she shared. "I was at the temple recently. I have been really frustrated lately with not being whole. I was at the point where you have to speak to progress. When I get emotional my impediment gets worse and I just couldn't get it right. I sat there and struggled with it for almost a half an hour and still could not do it just right . When I was finally able to go into the Celestial room I felt the words 'I accept it'.(During this whole story her impediment was affecting her speech) I knew even though I could not say it perfectly that Lord accepted what I was able to do"

As I sat in the red plush chair watching Hanna roll on the ground in front of me I was overwhelmed by the spirit. This sweet sister who I truly admire was sharing something so personal. And all I could think about was how I often felt frustrated with things in my own life. Though in comparison my trials are not so bad. I also felt how much the Lord really does value me and how he sees my worth even when I lose sight of it. I know God loves me, I know He sees great worth in me. Though I am not extraordinary in many of the ways the world would have you think. I am special to him and what I do with full purpose of hear the accepts. I am grateful for the examples of those around me and the opportunity to learn and grow. I know the Lord accepts my best, even when it fall short of what is best.

ps. I did not right this to fish for compliments. I am happy with who I am and Who I am trying to become. i just wanted to share this experience because truly felt the spirit and wanted others to know God sees great things in them even when they can't see them themselves.

Sweet Hanna

My sweet baby girl is 71/2 months old. It is hard to believe. She has brought so much joy into our lives. Lately she has started doing this girl sequel when she doesn't get her way. Mike and I think it's so funny. She has her diva moments, but mostly we just love her. Karver can't get enough of her and probably is the source of much displeasure to her. Every time I turn around her is "hugging" her or kissing her or " wrestling with her". But I love that he loves her even if it is exasperating.

For those of you who don't know at 3 Months Hanna was diagnosis with torticollis and plagiocephaly(flat spot). Laman terms her neck muscles were way tight on her left side which makes her hold her head tilted. Totally curable but it takes time, physical therapy and patience. and So I have been patience knowing most kids it takes until they are 9 months old until discharge and I have dutifully done the stretches at home everyday for the last few months. Rough at first but we got in a pattern and not so tough. Today I brought her to physical therapy and good news she has really improved she can tilt her head 35 degrees one way and 25 the other. Full range of motion and lots of strength. PT thinks she will be pretty symmetrical by next month. YEAH! BAD NEWS her sense of vertical is off. What does this mean it means when she sits up she does it crooked. Her back is a big C. Which means if not corrected then it might turn into a S. You know what that means scoliosis, back braces and pretty much something that can affect her whole life. WHAT!!!!! How common is this , oh it happens in 5-8% of kids with treated toticollis.

So as the PT is laying this on me it is taking all my strength not to break down and cry. I mean I've done everything in my power and now she has something else wrong with her. Is this kid ever going to have a normal day where mom isn't pushing or pulling her some way or the other. Plus she is not that far away from crawling and walking-what are we going to do then. I feel like such a failure. It's just so hard when your kid has problems, you know just want to give them the best in life, like a working body.

So what do I have to do now, more stretches for the next month and if that doesn't work(which by the way hardly ever does) a baby collar, yep a big plastic collar she will have to wear 4 hours a day, and if that doesn't work botox. Big sigh- We'll get through this, just needed to vent.

Hanna is a strong willed girl I am sure she will make ti through this. Even my physical therapist said the stubborn ones do the best, well at least some one else sees her spicy little attitude.

Potty Training

Oh where to begin. We decided to start potty training K. All I can say is that it's one crazy roller coaster. One moment I am clapping and shouting yeah and the next I am trying not to lose my temper as he yells at me "NO POTTY". But then the next moment he is sitting there in his cute nakedness and I can't help but smile. This picture will probably make you smile too. He will hate me when he's older, but that's OK because payback is well you know payback.

After a half year hiatus, here is a new post from the Warner Tribe. Karver and Hanna are both getting so big. Hanna has been busy these last few weeks cutting a couple of new teeth. She doesn't handle it as well as Karver did. She really wasn't that bad though. She has two teeth on the bottom. I think that might be the first two teeth that Karver cut as well.

Hanna had her blessing and Dad did such a great job. Her grandma bought her dress and she looked adorable.

We got Karver a little church outfit and he looks so handsome. He really likes church. He is learning how to be reverent and he is doing a lot better at being quiet and reverent at church. He looks so cute when he walks down the hall with his arms folded. He is saying the prayer pretty much all by himself now. He wants Mom and Dad to repeat his prayer though, and if we can't understand him and try and mumble what he is saying, he knows we aren't saying it correctly and will keep saying it until we can either figure it out or convince him to move on.

We had a photo shoot the other day with the kids (we still need one for the whole family) and they turned out really well. Hopefully we can keep up with this blogging stuff and do better. Here are some select pictures from the shoot.

Karver's 2nd Birthday

We have had a few very busy weeks at our house. Just 9 days after Hanna was born Karver turned 2. Mike's family came over on K-man's birthday. We had birthday pie and Karver had a blast playing with all of his cousins. On Wednesday, we threw him his first birthday party. It was a splash party in the backyard. A few of his buddies came over and we all had a blast watching the kids play in the water. Grandma Savoie took some pictures (Mike and I were too busy we forgot to). To say the least he had a very good birthday and was thoroughly spoiled by his friends and family.

Hanna's Story

Well now that Hanna is a week old I think I better write down her entrance into the world before I forget it. On Thursday July 15th I started having contractions around *;30 at night. they were 10 to 15 minutes apart so i didn't worry about them too much. I took a walk outside later that night to see if they would get any closer together but no luck, so I went to bed. In the morning I was still having contractions about 10-15 minutes apart so i decided to take Karver to the aquarium. We had a blast walking around and looking at the fish but those darn contractions would not get any closer together. So i gave up and figured they would get closer together when they were ready to. the rest of the day passed about the same. With the contractions getting to be 6 minutes apart for a while and then back to 8 minutes than 10 than 6. Nothing consistent.

Before I was checked into the hospital with Karver they sent me home twice and I did not want that to happen with this pregnancy. So I was determined not to go to the hospital until my contractions were 3 minutes apart, just to make sure they didn't send me home again.

Around midnight my contractions were consistently about 4-6 minutes apart. once again I was experiencing back labor. Though this time I used a breathing exercise that really helped me relax and get through each contraction. Finally at 12:30 we decided to go to the hosptial. I was afaid they were going to send us home but felt like we should go. a good friend came and got Karver adn Mike and I headed out.

We were headed to Timp Hospital, which meant we had to drive through he constructions to get get on the freeway and down to Orem. Maybe it was just our luck, but we were stopped by the sign guy so trucks could cross in front of us. i felt like I was in a movie when Mike had to stick his head out the window and beg the guy to let us pass because his wife was in labor. Finally he let us pass and then we got stuck on the freeway for a while(darn construction) But we made it to the hospital around 1:00.

As we walked in another couple came in with us the wife could barely walk and was crying through her contractions. I on the other hand was trying to stay calm and relaxed as I walked through my contractions. When we got the the check in counter the nurses commented that the other wife was clearly in labor and that I might be in labor. They sent us to a room to get check anyway. Luckily for me I was at a 3 and 90%b so they let me stay.(I later found out the other lady was only at a 1/2 cm. poor girl) My Contractions were still only 5 minutes apart but defiantly at full force. The nurse called my the anesthetist to come(he had to come from home) and set me up to the IV.

At around 2:30 The Anesthetist got there and gave me my epidermal. He had just laid me down and was checking all my tubes and wires. telling me about the happy button(which I never use) when my water broke. The nurse decided to check me and found that I had gone from about a 4 to a 10 in about 7 minutes. Mike asked if he could go grab his camera and she said if he ran. Then she started making calls and a whole brigade of nurses came hustling in to set up for the delivery. Mike got back and the Dr walked in. 2 contractions later(about 5 pushes) and we had a little girl. Total time spent in the hospital before she came was a little under 2 hours. I'm glad they didn't send us home.

It took us all day but we finally decided on a name around 8 at night. Hanna Capri Warner made he debut into the world at 2:49 am Saturday July 17th 2010. She is such a good baby and her big brother could love her more.

Crap Happens

When Karver was only a few days old Mike was changing his diaper(it happen to be the middle of the night). Anyway I hear a little toot and look up to find Mike splattered in baby poo. Instead of being the loving wife and hurrying to help him I bust up laughing and tell him the age old adage (Sh@#) Crap happens. He on the other hand did not find this at all amusing. Unfortunately most things in parenthood come around more then once. Today while going to grab a diaper to change Karver's already slightly stinking bum I hear a slightly wet toot. When I get back with the diaper I realize why the wet toot. You do the math. Let's just say it started running down his leg before I could do anything there was some on the carpet! I grabbed him and ran to my bathroom where tossed him the bathtub. Luckily he wasn't wearing pants and so I didn't have to strip those off but I did have to spray him down with our shower head while he screamed his protests.
Nevertheless I was able to get him cleaned up. I then checked to see how much damage was done on my mad dash to the bathroom. The main splatters were in his room and on the path to the bathroom. So I spent the morning with the carpet cleaner(I thankfully have not had time to return it to my good friend/neighbor)cleaning poop.
Finally when that task was done I decided to take Karver into the backyard to get some fresh air-the sun was out. I took a plastic bag with me to pick up some of Daisy's (our dog's)leftovers. Only to find out that my backyard has become the neighborhood dog park. There is a law in my city that dog's cannot be out without a leash. I think several of my fellow dwellers have forgot about that rule or else they are bringing their pooping machines to my backyard. I don't have a problem picking up after my own pet. But a 9 lb dog does not leave behind the same "pile" as a lab. so instead of playing with Karver I got to pick up a whole lotta crap.

Finally a new post

Okay, so last night I was at a meeting formally known as enrichment. One of my friends who shall remain nameless(ASHLEE) mentioned that she wasn't going to look at my blog anymore because I never update it. Well it's true I haven't posted for a few months. But I am turning over a new leaf.

October was a busy month for us. First Karver came down with the Hand, Foot, and Mouth virus. It lasted about a week and a half and he was miserable the whole time.

Then we went to Oregon and visited my family. It was great to see them all. karver had a blast, but traveling was hard on him.

A few days after we got home he started running a fever and and was very ornery and sad. We chalked it up to teething thinking he's drooling a ton adn he has a low grade fever. Wrong. Later his mouth broke out in white sores. I gues he came down with a mouth virus that is related to herpes most children get it and don't notice. Not my son, the dentist said he had an extreme case. Normally most kids get over it in 10 days or less. karver took 14 days. 14 days of pain that we couldn't really do anything for him except keep him drugged on Infant Motrin and Tylenol. Yes he was on day 10 on Halloween. But being the kind parents we are, still stuck in his chubby costume and wandered the neighborhood with him. Nevertheless I am glad this October is over and am hoping to keep the kid healthy for a few weeks at least. Here's hoping.

Pioneer Day and Carnivals

Well today is Pioneer Day here in Utah. It is a great way to celebrate those who came before us. Every year we celebrate by spending a little time down in Spanish Fork at the carnival and parade. This was Karver's first carnival. He loved hanging out with his cousins and riding the merry-go-round. He especially loved that Corben and Brayden spent the night.

When Karver woke up I brought him downstairs and the first thing he wanted to do was go to Corben. The three boys then sat in a circle and played with pokemon toys. Karver had the biggest grin on his face and kept patting Corbby's knee and pointing to different toys. I am so grateful to have the Warner Family so close, we love spending time with them!

Karver's Big Day

So Karver had a big day yesterday. He cut his first tooth, had to go the hospital for the Croup and traded some stock. Maybe everything except for the stock trading. Anyway he was sounding really bad so we took him in. They did some test and then the radiologist came in and prepared us for the "mean machine" in which you can see Karver below. He said it is harder for the mom than the child and he will probably cry and yady yady ya da. We put him in there and he was so content. We couldn't help but laugh.

Life moves so fast

So our little guy started eating rice cereal this week. So far so good. He tolerates it and eats it but I'm not sure that he likes it. So I'm thinking it probably doesn't taste great (it smells awful!) Really I think he ends up wearing most of it.

He also has recently learned how to swim/splash around the bathtub. It's so funny to watch him, he kicks his legs and arms and chases after the rubber duckies. Ah the little moments that make it all worth it. He's been sick the last few days and so bath time has been one of the few times when he is happy.

You only have one first Christmas

It is hard to believe Christmas has come and gone. It is one of my favorite seasons of the year. We have such wonderful friends and family we were able to share it with. Karver had a wonderful first Christmas. Santa brought him an ExerSaucer (which he loves!) It was fun to spend the holiday with him even though he really didn't understand what was going on.

We were able to spend the day with Mike's family. We miss my family and are excited to see them soon. Here is a picture and video of Karver on Chirstmas morning. Thanks for the PJ's Grammy Savoie.

Yesterday we blessed Karver. It was a wonderful blessing. There is nothing like hearing your own baby being blessed. I am so grateful Mike is a worthy priesthood holder. Karver's cousins love to hold him but I am not sure that he always wants to be held=)

I don't know what it is, but I don't think that there is anything cuter than naked baby bath pictures. There is just something about when Karver is taking a bath that makes me think he is so cute. I am sure he will hate it someday when I bust them out, but for now I am posting one for the world to see my cute little bather.

Yesterday I went to get Karver dressed and realized that he looked a lot bigger so tried a 0/3 month outfit on him and it fit. I can't believe he's already growing out of newborn clothes. Today he is 4 weeks old and it has gone so fast. It is amazing to me that babies can grow so much in such a short amount of time.

One Ugly Doll

Thanks to my mother-in-law I was able to create my own ugly doll. It was a lot of fun and it is cool to make something come to life which you created out of your head. Hopefully I can make more by myself.

I just finished my summer class which was an advertising class. For our final we were supposed to team up with the photo class and have them take our images and we as the designers would to the layout and design. Well there weren't enough photo students so I ended up taking out own pictures for my group. I am glad though that I had the opportunity. I think they turned out well. This is an ad campaign for wearing your seatbelt. Like click it or ticket.

So tonight when Mike and I returned home from a little snack attack run(ok I was hungry and he came along) We were greeted by some little friends. I opened our garage to see two little birds hanging out on the garage opener wire. I pointed them out to Mike and we both wondered how they got in the garage.

So we get out and try to shoo them away, but those little buggers would budge. We decided to take desperate measures and busted out the bird terminator otherwise known as a tennis racket. Mike being more limber at the moment played the part of exterminator. Picture in your ind Mike running around the garage after two little birds with a tennis racket trying to get them to fly outside.

But it gets even better, we get the two out an close he garage door and what appears but two more little birdies. I start laughing as mike starts his war cry and chasing again. My job is to open the garage door, so I think well birds are like flies you only need to open the door a little bit and they'll fly out. Wrong! those dumb birds fly into the garage door but cannot seem to figure out how to get out of the door. AHHHHH But never fear after a few times of chasing the birds out closing the garage, finding more birds, opening the garage, and watching Mike chase them around wielding his tennis racket tomahawk we finally said goodbye to our feathered friends. I guess we will be keeping our garage door closed from now on.

My name is Mike and if anyone knows me, they know that I like 5 things- Midgets, Penguins, Monkeys, Fetuses and robots (occasionally the pirate and ninja). Anyway, my beautiful wife Jackie who also likes robots is finally going to let me post this on here. I have been planning this moment for a long time trying to figure out how to tell everyone(who doesn't already know) that we have finally invested in a fetus! Now we need to get one of each of the other four. Here is a diagram of what he will look like most likely. I have worked on it all night. I am half indian so I think he or she will have a mohawk. We find out on the 26th of Feb. if it is going to be a robot.

They will also tell us if it is a boy or girl robot/midget. Now it is time for a milkshake.

Choose Your Resolutions

Before we dive into goal trackers and resolution reminder systems, first make sure you've nailed down exactly what you want to achieve. Management expert Peter Drucker recommended that teams use the S.M.A.R.T. acronym as a guideline for setting objectives, and it works for personal goals, too. Your SMART New Year's resolutions should be:

Specific. Don't just say "Lose weight." Decide to "Lose 12 pounds."
Measurable. Instead of "Be better about corresponding with old friends," decide to "Send out birthday and holiday cards to my high school friends."
Achievable. "Be the perfect employee/mom/sister/spouse" is an admirable goal, but nobody's perfect, no matter how resolved they are. Make your resolution something that's possible—like, "Improve next year's performance review by at least one grade."
Realistic. You've only got so many hours in the day, so make your goals realistic based on what resources and tools you've got on hand. Learning how to milk a cow, for example, is less realistic for someone who lives in the middle of Manhattan.
Timely. Since these are New Year's resolutions, set goals you can reach at most within the next 12 months. Giving yourself a "deadline" of sorts will help you figure out where you should be when while tracking your progress.

I am so excited for this new year. I think new years are great and a fantastic time to evaluate your own life and make new goals.
President Kimball said this about goals:
“It is most appropriate for Aaronic Priesthood youth, as well as Melchizedek Priesthood men and the women of the Church, to quietly, and with determination, set some serious personal goals in which they will seek to improve by selecting certain things that they will accomplish within a specified period of time.” That is really the way we accomplish things in life. If we aren't working toward something, we will never achieve anything.
I am excited and glad to have such wonderful blessings in my life. I urge everyone to make achievable goals and write them down and constantly work towards something. I conclude with this quote:
“If you find a man on top of a mountain, he didn’t fall there.” If you and I are to reach the summit of our divine potential, we must work each step of the way. The path may be rugged, difficult, unheralded; but it can be successfully climbed if we are willing to work with all our strength and commitment.

Tender Mercies

I have been so blessed lately. For those of you who don't know I lost my wedding rings in September. As you can imagine I was very sad. I knew the Lord had the power to help me find them. So I got down and started to pray and ask for help finding them. Well I felt so peaceful that I just knew I couldn't worry. And then another week passed and I still wouldn't be able to find my rings. So I would pray about them again. Again I would feel peace. Well this cycle continued until I decided I just needed to trust in the Lord. It really was a weird feeling because I knew I should be worried and frustrated and sad because I had lost my wedding rings. There is no way we could afford to replace them and darn it they are just so sentimental to me. But every time I tried to get upset about them I would think about the answer I had received and know I needed to trust in the Lord. Well about a week ago I decided I would just a fake ring to wear, so people would know I'm married. Because let's face it without a wedding ring I truly look like a 17 year old teenager. ( Believe me it embarrassing when teenagers think you go to the same High School as they do.)

Anyway I decided I would go to the store while Mike was at his Saturday morning class. When I got up that day I felt like I needed to clean out our storage/junk room. This was something that I had felt like I needed to do for weeks, but kept putting it off. Well I bit the bullet and cleaned and organized the darn room. It took a few sweet hours of perspiration and looking at old memories. As I was cleaning, I was throwing away useless things we were holding onto. I came across a few catalogs for furniture we had got in the mail and put them off to the side to look at later. When I finished the rest of the room the two catalogs were still sitting to the side where I had left them. I decided to look through them before getting rid of them. I went in to the study and sat down with them. As I sat down I felt something hard in the catalog. i opened the catalog expecting one of Mike's candy wrappers to fall out and saw instead my wedding rings. I could hardly believe my eyes!

I am just so thankful for my Heavenly Father's tender mercies. I know in the long scheme of things a few pieces of jewelery won't affect eternity. But He knows how much they mean to me and so he helped me to find my rings. I really feel it a miracle. I am so grateful for the tender mercies I experience daily. I am blessed!

So we recently went to Poland and our friend Asia taught us how to make Pierogi which is a typical polish meal. It is so good. She even gave us a pierogi maker. We still have some frozen in our freezer. You need to come over and eat some!

Yes, it's true I went hunting. Mike finally convinced me to put on orange and cruise the canyon. Although I am not allowed near a gun. It's not too bad, I just bring the mackpod(ipod) turn on some tunes and enjoy the scenery.

Funny enough though no matter what I do Mike manages to capture me at the oddest times=)
